LUNA Fête 2017 | New Orleans Tricentennial Premiere

Cross-Cultural Connections, LUNA Fête 2017

Presented by Pan-American Life Insurance Group LUNA Fête 2017 provided a premiere to New Orleans 2018 Tricentennial Celebration with a showcase of cross-border connections. The signature Gallier Hall projection mapping installation, Viva Nola!, created by Mexican artist studio AVA Animation & Visual Arts explored the similarities between New Orleans and Mexican culture. The east end of the LUNA Campus featured Passages by Canadian Artist Serge Maheu a minimalist, contemplative and interactive artwork that explores the emotional connections we develop with light and sound. Additionally local and regional artists work were featured.

Notably, DATAField, a work that premiered at LUNA Fête 2017 continues to travel and generate impact and discussions related to public awareness, urban space, and place making and was exhibited in the European Cultural Center as part of the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale, one of the most important exhibitions in the world related to architecture and urbanism.

It’s impossible to describe LUNA Fête in just a few words. It’s so much more than a holiday light show. LUNA Fête takes the basic elements of nighttime, the holiday season and NOLA’s festive nature and then adds a big dose of amazement and wonder. To experience it is pretty transformative.

With an innovative blend of projection mapping, sound installation, and motion graphics, LUNA Fête will transform the area surrounding the (Lafayette) square into a living work of art.

The festival is an Arts Council of New Orleans initiative, focused on converting local iconic architecture into canvases for massive outdoor light installations.
